My boyfriend is having trouble dealing with his parents maritial issues. There is talk of a divorce and I know he is really struggling with this. I have tried to just be there for him, but I noticed that our relationship is changing now too. What advice do you have for me? We have dated for ten months and have never had any problems, but now he is very moody and easily upset. I don't want to lose him and just wonder how to help him cope. He idolizes his father and the cause of the marriage issue falls on him. So not only is he dealing with the divorce, but the fact that his father is not the person he felt he was to begin with. How can I help by boyfriend deal with his parents divorcing?
Be supportive and listen to him when he wants to talk about it. Don't pry for information or try to get him to talk about it when he doesn't want to. Being there for him is really the only thing that you can do. You could plan things to do to keep his mind off of it. Just keep in mind that it won't take away the problem and it may take some time for him to adjust to the change in the relationship between his parents. How can I help by boyfriend deal with his parents divorcing?
You two don't have to be planning marriage to benefit from counseling. As friends concerned for each other, seeking advice and guidance from a trained person can help boyfriend see that there is a way to cope. He can learn how to look at situations from different perspectives, and re-evaluate where he stands with his parents, and himself, in the greater scheme of life.
I hope you'll both be able to do this, even a short time can help.
A part of his life is changing in a very big way and he's going to change because of it.
Give him space, be there when he needs you, try not to take things he does too personally.
However, you can't allow him to disregard your feelings too often.....he will have to deal with this because he has no choice.
That dude's a grown damn man. Tell him to get over it and quick
His parents deserve happiness.
Peace!
You just need to be there for him. His world is falling apart. Listen to him and be there for him. Show him that you are there for him and he will always love you for it.
I would just let your guy know that you will be there for him when he needs to talk. Maybe he feels trapped and just needs his space guys are weird like that. Maybe you should try to talk with him and he might tell you whats going on or maybe he just isn't ready. I'm sure once things calm down everything will be back to normal! :)
