My boyfriend's dog just died this evening. He was attacked while my boyfriend was away. He was beat severly by other dogs possibly the other two dogs my boyfriend has. He was a puppy when my boyfriend got him for his seventh birthday 11 years ago. He is extremly upset. I don't know what to do.How can I help my boyfriend deal with the death of his dog?
I'm so sorry to hear that. I lost my 16 year old cat just last month and I'm still grieving, though not crying as much now. It's such a horribly painful time, he is lucky to have you there to support him, you are a very loving girlfriend and I'm sure he will remember that forever. Her's a link I found most helpful....there is nothing anyone can say or do to make his loss any less painful, but you can help him in the healing process just by being understanding and listening and being a true friend in his time of grieving. You can help him with all the proceedings involved in taking care of his dog's death and being his rock to lean on. Be patient, stay loving, that's all you can do. Advice will do nothing for him at this time, but here's the link';

Personally I'd check the other two dogs to make sure they did or did not have a part in this. Killing isn't the norm and if these two dogs are that aggressive they're a danger and a liability to other pets. He would not think good about them either if they had a hand in killing the dog.
Be there for your boyfriend. Check out the other two dogs--this part can't be ignored.
we all know that losing a pet is like losing a family member. i would first take him to a fun place tomorrow. perhaps you can take him to the movies and watch a comedy movie. the thing not to do is buy him another dog right away. he needs time to heal before you get to that process. anyway, good luck to you both and happy new year.
If you really think he will have a terrible time getting over the dog, there are grief conselors for this situation. They are usually at vet schools if u have one in your general vicinity. If not, then get him a cookie bouquet or something just saying that he is in your thoughts. I'm sure that would cheer him up a little.
I would just hug him and stuff like that. Make his favorite foods, watch his favorite TV shows. Do stuff he likes to do, but calm things. And don't majorly make out with him or something. Make sure he gets some sleep. And when pets die, the easiest way to get over it is to put your love into someone else, so remember to be there for him.
tomorrow tell him it is time to man up
